Itching to unbalance

What I am learning from this challenge is that symmetry is definitely a much less comfortable idea for me than asymmetry.  I think my decision to use courthouse steps as a starting point has been helpful, up to a point,  but really all I need to do now is just keep cutting strips and going round and round.  And where, I ask myself, is the fun in that?

You would think, wouldn't you, that I would be grateful for a nice, simple, pretty solution but clearly not.  I love these fabrics, the mix of florals and stripes and plaid,  and the general feel of what I have so far but I am itching to start unbalancing things.  I'm not even sure that would be a good idea at this point, but still I want to meddle.

I will try to think of a way to tinker that doesn't upset things too much.

How about two pretty evenly sized left and right borders but in different fabrics or designs?

It's lovely to me right now. What about adding some word/stamping/writing about this year? You do that excellently.

Oh my, I did laugh when I read this! I really love how this is looking, and would love to keep adding strips round & round! After my foray with this challenge, simple & pretty are my next project's focus words LOL.

Would the next step for you depend on the size presently and are you going to go big? I doubt I can add more apart from to say that Julie, Ann and Linda all make good comments.I agree with Ann that you do work wonders with your addition of words to your quilts and the timing would be perfect. Personally I love the colours here and the design so far, the flying geese are a great addition.

What next? Well coming from where I'm at I would say relax about it.
I like to see your 'tinkering' and read about your process because I get a lot of helpful insight into my own design
adventures.
After all isn't this improv design thing supposed to be fun?

I love this post Kaja! Just made me smile so much. It's hard to feel 'boxed' in and not be able to respond intuitively to our creative urges. I think that's why the challenges {though mostly simple} are such a good thing. Forces us to figure out new ways to approach our making. The colors and fabrics in this quilt are absolutely lovely!

I completely understand you. Complete symmetry is boring. Whimsical is the way to go. It excites the eye and makes one think - wait, what happened here?
