Red is a Neutral AHIQ Invitation

Kaja and I emailed back and forth discussing ideas for the next invitation. After the extreme challenge of mapping, we wanted something simpler. The new year is always busy with challenges, swaps, QALs, etc. Personally, I've joined Sujata's  U and U Challenge. She and Rod Kiracofe are delightful, generous, and exceptionally open to the beauty of handmade crafts.

In the meanwhile, two venues in Berkeley CA showcase Freddy Moran this month: Hello Stitch and Bay Quilts. Unfortunately Freddy was unable to attend the reception but it sparked further discussion of her many contributions to improvisational quilting. She and Gwen Marston collaborated on two books where she famously stated, "Red is a neutral." Then I pointed out that Rod's show, Red, just closed.

It's a sign! A series of blinking red light signs!

How would you use red? Does it really go with everything? Of course, feel free to combine with other challenges, with your current projects, choose another neutral, or skip it altogether.

We invite you to join us this year. Use #AHIQRed if you post on your blog or other social media so we can find your work.

Are you in?

This should be fun. I'll let the fabrics tell the story instead of the design.

I'm in! This looks like being doable in the coming months, but I shall have to rethink my fabrics for the UandUQAL to make RED the NEUTRAL! (I don't have time for both!)

Yes, it's a sign! What a great inspiration. I'm in. In fact, I just made a top for the U&U QAL with a prominent red streak. If I can figure out how to post it here, I will.

Robin, Marly and LeeAnn. I'm so glad you're joining Red. Combining these challenges is the only way to get them done. So many sound good but so little time.

I am definitely in - and the first one I'll make for the AHIQ challenge will also be part of Lori's Strings qal and Sujata's U and U QAL. I'm calling mine NOT a mystery - will post about it soon.

Love this idea. I've been pondering making a red quilt for a long time. Now I have the motivation to get started!

By a curious coincidence I am just completing a quilt for another challenge that struck my fancy. It was to make a quilt of a certain size featuring "your favorite color". Setting aside the futility of naming one favorite favorite color, I decided to start with...drum roll...RED! I'll write about it and include the hashtag once it is ready for viewing! Happy New Year, Kaja and Ann

I love it! I'm in, I think. I need to look at how many projects I have going, but I think I can mix this with our guild challenge. I was thinking of using blue/white but red/white works.

Freddy and Gwen are my quilt heroes. And red is a magical color bringing thrills and heat wherever it goes.
Yes, I'm in, here's to red.

I am in Ann! I have still few pressing matters between now and when I make my first AHIQ quilt but I am excited to be part of this.

I am in! I may not make the first deadline....I have a show for February I am prepping for. Maybe a little improv in between, huh?
